Douglas Gwynn Smith, composer

WELCOME

It’s been a very busy year so far. This spring saw the premiere of three new works: the music for Imperfect, a play written by Mary Burns and premiered March 20-27 in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre; the premiere of BC Scene, a piece for two solo violins and orchestra commissioned by the National Arts Centre Orchestra and premiered on April 30, 2009 in Ottawa as part of the BC Scene Festival put on by the National Arts Centre; and a little ditty for violin and piano called More Clarinets (...Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Dorian Mode) which was premiered on April 4, 2009.

Currently, I am busy working on my 24 Preludes and Inventions, trying to get it completed before the onslaught of September teaching duties. I hope to get this done.

Changing the world one note at a time.

Welcome to my new and improved website. Please take a gander: listen to some music; look at some pictures; read stuff; have fun; and don’t forget - always say please and thank you.
